Simple Strawberry Smoothies

Strawberry smoothies are one of life’s simple pleasures! Easy to make and always a delicious treat, my kids are always clamoring for smoothies. This week we opted to try them with freeze-dried strawberries…and I have to say, I think we’ll stick with our frozen berries. I’ve included our recipe for freeze-dried berry smoothies, in case you’d like to try it, but this is one place, where I wouldn’t recommend freeze-dried fruit. –Mellyn

  Yield: About 4 cups

  • 2 cups water
  • 6 Tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder**
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 cups frozen strawberries
  1. Add water, nonfat dry milk powder and sugar to blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Add berries and blend again.
  3. Enjoy!
**To use fresh, just substitute 2 cups milk for water and milk powder.
For Freeze-dried Strawberry Smoothies:
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup nonfat dry powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups freeze-dried strawberries
  • 2 3/4 cups ice
  1. Add water, nonfat dry milk powder, vanilla and sugar to blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Add berries and blend again.
  3. Add ice and pulse until big chunks are broken up.
  4. Enjoy!
