What could be better than baking homemade pies? EATING homemade pies, of course! In honor of Thanksgiving (the mention of which almost makes me smell pie) I pulled out our family favorites and made them food-storage friendly.
Once again, I’m astounded by the versatility of navy beans and found them invaluable in converting many of our family favorites to food storage favorites! I included options for using bean flour, canned beans and plain ol’ butter…Like Robin, I store a lot of it in my freezer. But if I can make a tantalizing dessert that’s healthier and doesn’t sacrifice taste, I probably will…and I’ll save the butter for my toast! (Apparently I have some kind of phobia about dry toast!)
For the most part, I’m leaving the crust up to you — make it, buy it, skip it if you’re so inclined! I use the basic Betty Crocker recipe, but since I don’t love rolling out pie crust, often I just buy it in the freezer section. (Sshhh!)
